NarroWay Takes a Different Look at the Easter Story in "Lord of Light"  E-mail

Think you know the Easter story? Take another look! NarroWay Productions is bringing the Easter story to life from a whole new perspective with "Lord of Light." This Broadway-style live theater show is playing through April 7 at the NarroWay Theatre (http://www.narroway.net). And it is anything but the "same-as-always" Easter show.

"Lord of Light" focuses on the time between the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His resurrection three days later. Few playwrights, if any, have emphasized that particular span of time in their works. "The typical thing to do at Easter is to focus on the events leading up to the Crucifixion and then jump immediately to the Resurrection," says NarroWay's theatre manager, Lora McCoy. 'Lord of Light' is a physical portrayal of the spiritual realm during that time. It is the battle between good and evil and the ultimate victory won by Jesus through his resurrection."

"I suppose in terms of theatre, 'Lord of Light' is a 'behind-the-scenes' view of the Resurrection," says McCoy. The show begins in the halls of higher learner, in a college classroom, where the topic of the day is "the world view concept of God." The development of this topic leads to a highly relevant look at a variety of biblical accounts ranging from the story of creation to the book of Revelation.

aerial_150With amazing costumes and brilliant black light effects, the creation story comes to life on the NarroWay stage. Aerial artists depicting butterflies perform stunning acrobatics dangling in the air. Monkeys and zebras run with exuberance. A sea turtle swims and a giraffe saunters across the stage. All creation comes together in peace for the creation of man.

A sensational, one-of-a-kind portrayal of the resurrection, "Lord of Light" also features sword-wielding angels in an intense battle scene, firepots that project flames up to 12' high, low lying fog and state-of-the-art intelligent lights and sound. And when the battle is over, Jesus is victorious in the midst of it all with his majestic white horse.

"Lord of Light" is perhaps the most unique and comprehensive yet compact portrayal of the Easter story to grace any stage. Recounting mankind's fall from grace and the subsequent need for redemption, the show portrays Christ's resurrection as the fulfillment of that need. "We don't just tell the story," says Alisha Anders, Director of Tour Marketing for NarroWay. "We tell why the story happened. And we make it relevant to today's world."

It's this kind of unique approach that has audience members raving. "Amazing talent. I can't believe this type of show exists right here in town!" says Lesa Roffler, who recently brought her young boys to the show.

"Lord of Light" plays each Friday at 6:30pm and Saturday at noon through Easter weekend, April 7, at the NarroWay Theatre. As with most shows at the NarroWay Theatre, dinner is offered in conjunction with the show. Dinner tickets include a delicious 1/2 rack of ribs on a bed of orzo pasta with Mediterranean vegetables, a dinner roll, dessert and beverage. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.narroway.net or by calling the box office at 803.802.2300. The NarroWay Theatre is located in the greater Charlotte area, just 1/2 mile south off I-77 exit 90 (Carowinds Boulevard).
